As desperate battles rage across the skies, one woman stands between a spy and his plans.
Evelyn Ainsworth has had enough. While enemy forces prepare for invasion, the spy known only as Henry has become more than a nuisance. After a close call puts her life at risk, she takes matters into her own hands. But Henry has also had enough, and only one of them can survive.
The pilots of the RAF are exhausted. Losses are high, they’re out of reserves, and Hitler’s Luftwaffe is poised to claim victory. Acting Squadron Leader Miles Lacey is ordered to take his pilots south, into the heart of the fighting. But despite their eagerness to make a difference, the battle for survival quickly takes its toll.
As the RAF struggles to prevent a Nazi invasion, it’s up to Evelyn to uncover a traitor and stop him once and for all.
While the rest of the world watches, the very fate of Great Britain, and of freedom itself, rests with them…
A deadly few.

I eagerly waited for this last book in the series! I read quickly then go back and read again. But that’s not all, when I have finished I will go back to the very beginning. I will read it again the whole series from book one to book eight! I have loved the whole story.

OMG. This author is in a category all of her own. Her depth of research and attention to detail is incomparable, and a bit mind boggling, to be honest. Unlike so many other best-selling authors her books are not formulaic. The Shadows of War series (as well as her other two series) is a perfect example of her talent, and an amazing tale of certain events and characters dealing with WWII. A Deadly Few is the 8th book in this series and once again the reader is drawn in to the drama and intrigue of this amazing story. The story sticks with you, as well as the characters - CW’s first book in this series came out in 2020 and even though I’ve read tons of books over the years since, the moment I started reading this 8th book in the series (five years later in 2025) everything fell away and I was right back into Evelyn’s story. Another indication how truly memorable her talent really is. She manages to weave fictional characters throughout the fabric of real life events during the war that feel like real people. Her attention to detail is so incredibly descriptive it feels like you’re running to a shelter during bombing raids or walking through an ancient graveyard waiting to confront a traitor. Or as in her earlier books, running for your life through the forests of Norway. Her books (all 3 of her series) grab your attention immediately, and you realize hours have passed (reading through the night) until you’re finally finished. And are anxiously waiting for her next book. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world. H. LeBlanc

This is another super job of writing from one of my Favorite Authors. You knocked it past out of the ball park and way on beyond. This is a good series with some history lessons along the way. Keep up the good work and please write faster! Carolyn

Still loving this series, I’ve been hooked ever since the first one! I will be patiently awaiting the next one. Evelyn is still up to her spying shenanigans and it’s nice to hear more of the story from Miles point of view. This is a really big favorite of mine. Thanks for a great and interesting read.

Another great read by one of my favorite authors. In the next chapter of this Shadows Of War series, our socialite, self-confident aristocrat and MI6 operative/spy continues her efforts to help her country resist the Nazi domination of Europe. Germany has occupied France and is now turning its attention to England. Jian is back home on familiar turf but has uncovered traitors in her own back yard. Intrigue, bombs and love make for a compelling story.
